1. The OT is divided into four major sections: Law, History, Poetry, and
Prophecy.
2. The purpose of the Gospel historians was to identify Jesus as the
promised Messiah.
A. Matthew wrote to the Jews.
B. Luke wrote to the Greeks.
C. Mark wrote to the Romans.
D. John wrote to everyone.
E. In the Gospels, Jesus often sought to awaken people from their
self-deception.
Key Text: Therefore, by the deeds of the law
shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge
of sin . . . For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God . . .
Therefore, we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the
deeds of the law. -- Romans 3:20, 23, and 28
